"I am the [only] way…" – Jesus

hrrrmmmm…

I am a bit reluctant to post this, not that it is heresy, but because I’ve actually read the book this article was taken from (it was in the earlier draft, taken out of the final draft). So if you decide to read this, know that Brian McLaren’s book A Secret Message of Jesus has a lot of dialogue backing this viewpoint. Also try (really hard) to read it without your T.R.E.E. (Tradition, Reason, Experience and Emotion) glasses on, and read the introduction by Tony Jones and Brian McLaren.

Reading of John 14:6

That’s quite an article! So articulate. I like what he has to say about Jesus’ message being one of expansion and INclusion, not of narrowing EXclusion. And the part about Christ moving downward was thoughtful. He makes a good case for that interpretation. This discussion makes me think of C.S. Lewis. He seemed to be a bit more, shall we say, “open-minded” about heaven’s gates than a lot of Christians liked. Remember in “The Last Battle” where one of Tash’s worshippers makes it into Aslan’s Country? Even as a child, that little development intrigued me. No matter what side of the fence we fall on, I think this is a conversation worth having, and I’m glad you brought it up!
