to throw in my 2 cents on the war in Iraq..?
Violence is for those who have lost their imagination. Has your country [America] lost its imagination? – spoken by an Iraqi Doctor to author Shane Claiborne
There are only questions, without any justifiable answers or solutions…
Q. Why are we still there?
A. And don’t tell me it is for the liberation of the Iraqi people… Sadamm Hussein is already dead. A better answer is that we are there for the oil… and the assurance that when the “democratic” government is set up we will still have rights to the oil contained beneath the desert (is it a strange occurance that where the Garden of Eden was supposed to be… a wealth of oil is..?).
Q. Who is the protector of the innocent?
A. The casualty rate in Iraq and how many innocents are dying [78,081 as recorded on Sunday, September 9 by IBC] is an atrocity we cannot ignore, though what to do about it is beyond me at this moment.
Q. What do those in the Armed forces think about this war?
A. Referred to me by Jason Roland the Army of Dude is a blog by Alex Horton a soldier based in Iraq. Take a gander and tell me what you think.
As I sit and think about this issue I am brought back to the original quote by the Iraqi doctor, what have we lost that compels us to jump into a war so readily? If imagination is indeed the antidote to violence… what do you imagine? Is it a place where people are free, a utopia, a commune or just a place where innocent lives are not threatened. I long for an ideal. A world where man can live in peace with his enemy, where community is embraced and love rather than a rifle is used in the offensive attack on the tyranny of evil. I imagine a place without war. Now to imagine a path to this ideal… that is the question.
Here is a comical… though ironic schpeel by Jon Stewart and friends…

Wow — you dared! I’ll opt not to partake in that can of worms today. But in reponse to your comment, kind of. I am currently an editor at a newspaper, but am also trying to launch an independent magazine on the side.
I just may have to take you up on that
