An acquaintance of mine, Rhett Smith, posted an intriguing article on his blog a couple weeks ago, that has been sticking in my kraw… mainly because it’s content contains thoughts I’ve been ruminating on recently. Especially as I’ve moved through the TentLife experience, straight into marriage and the schedule munching monster that is entrepreneurship.
This theme of ‘Rest versus Margin‘ is one that I have been focusing on in my research and writing of “Outside Looking In” a book project that I’ve been working on over the past year. It’s a thick subject, that’s for sure, and one that I won’t be able to tackle in a brief blog post… but I want to weigh in with some thoughts that I hope will spur you to take a step back and see the big picture of Sabbath keeping and the importance of creating some margin in your day-to-day.
Margin, “white space”, boundaries…whatever term you use, it is essentially the same. It’s the act of creating space that is free of busyness and activities… I see this task of creating space and margin as being very different from Sabbath.

I agree with Rhett, creating margin in your life is essential for proper family, work, life balance, a space of time to be flexible and to create… free from the bondage of wireless devices and media consumption. A time to be present with those in your community and flexible with the ones you love. To go, do and be — together.
