can i get a french press…?

johnny cash Soundtrack for the evening:  Johnny Cash, “Live at Folsom Prison”

Seriously. Last night I was on a mission to find a french press to help caffienate my life and get me through these long nights of studying (3 more weeks). I am not normally a coffee drinker but I am trying to quit diet coke, a feat that is harder than I had previously imagined it to be, and coffee seems the appropriate choice. Just switch addictions, right? So envision this, Sam driving in the van all over Norman trying to track down one of these elegant contraptions:

Places I visited to seek out above cafetière:

Albertsons: 30 mins. Got distracted by realization that fridge was empty.
Borders: 45 mins. Got distracted by musical selections, dvd releases, and magazines.
Starbucks: 5 mins. Story below.
Wal-Mart: 30 mins. No better way to white trash-out an evening than to visit the local Wally-World. No french press, got distracted by cheap watches, cheap bean bags and cut off t-shirts that were for sale. Did not buy anything.

Frustration: How does a coffee house (Starbucks) not sell a french press, and when I asked the barista’s they assumed ignorance and replied, “Oh… sorry man, I guess we don’t sell those… but we could order one for you.” Thanks. I guess I’ll have to try again today… I think I know of place in the City.

Try Target or “Bed Bath and Beyond”

Both of those places has interesting kitchen supplies, especially the latter.

Don’t get a glass one….we’ve broken four in under two years at my house. Inert plasic is the name of the game, go with Bodum, classy and simple, like a Volkswagen.

I saw some at Ross for $11. They’re normally $30. So…try Kohls…or Ross. Cheap. Glass breaks…but if you take care of it…way better than plastic, in my opinion. Plastic takes the coolness out of the French Press!

    Good luck!!

Ross has ‘em. I saw them there about 2 days ago. They even have the Bodum ones and they come with matching mugs!

Ahhh… yes good ‘ol ROSS, where irregular means 50% off.

I was in the City (Oklahoma City) this morning and ended up buying one at a Starbucks in the Mall. Thank you for the advice and I’ll let you know how fast this beauty breaks.

    This is hardly a crisis!

….no this is totally a crisis..I’m glad you found one Sam. I was struck with the realization that mom and dad don’t drink caffeinated coffee anymore. When I was there I made them buy some so that I could appease my cravings. Dad kept reminding me what caffeine does to you…kind of a “this is your brain, this is your brain on drugs” kind of a lecture. ;)

Maybe I’ll care later on in life…but caffiene is what makes my college world go round. :) I need to buy some teeth whitening strips though..’cause my addiction is showing. Oops. ;)

Not everything at Ross is irregular so don’t be putting down Ross. Ya just gotta be smart while you’re there.
