In Durango, CO, there is a bakery that I love to visit. Not only because of their homemade sourdough bread, snickerdoodle cookies, and soy latte’s, but also because of their perspective on the sanctity of life and the way to peace. They express this view with a simple sticker that they give away for free at the cash register. It’s message is simple: Bread not Bombs. It is a political statement against the proliferation of bombing used by our government and the governments of this world to seek peace… They believe (and I affirm) that sustained peace is better brought about by delivering “bread not bombs” to our enemies! And as I sit and watch the news ticker deliver updates on bombings in Gaza Strip, suicide bombings in Baghdad, and other atrocities in Afghanistan, my heart is heavy and I plead with our Government…. Please stop the violence, cease the war, instead of delivering bombs to our neighbors lets send bread.

you would drink soy lattes
But they do it for your God?
They may do it to please their God… but that does not mean God is pleased.
Perhaps, but how would we know? And if so, why not put a stop to it?
Ahhhhhaaa… That is the question. I would venture to say that though we may never fully understand the totality of God (as He is infinite in being), we can begin to understand the heart of God. We can do this by seeking His hope for our lives – to be people of peace, to love our neighbors, and to help the marginalized. In doing these things we see the hopelessness found in War, Revenge and Murder.
Why don't "we" put a stop to it? Man, I wish I knew… All I can do is speak out against it and continue to love my enemies, enemies abroad and at home.
If you really paid attention, you’d realize that “Bread Not Bombs” isn’t really “bread not bombs”, it’s BREAD. And the “NOT BOMBS” part of it, well that’s called a slogan, or a catch phrase, if you will. This business has not ever sent a single loaf of bread to anywhere other than Cortez because there are no preservatives in them and would not be able to make it to actual places where organizations that use the name to help aid in famine and starvation due to American war.
So the next time you walk in there and drop your green on the table, ask them when was the last time they did something non profit.
I bet you’ll be surprised at the answer.
It’s businesses like these that make my skin crawl, I consider it FAKE PHILANTHROPY
