ChasingTheSun
ThesisStatement
In a twenty-something’s life daily choices are made that direct the footsteps of tomorrow, the variety of options and decisions available create a web of angst that can slowly paralyze the ambitions of youth. Movies and music capture this paralysis in unique mediums and cast rays of hope to those experiencing the incapacitating emotions of fear and worry. Some use these mediums to escape; finding newfound desire to achieve simple attainable goals which over time lead to magnificent accomplishments. Unfortunately, others numb themselves using a multitude of devices (or vices) to escape the paralysis of one’s choices. Television numbs the mind, alcohol numbs the emotions, and drugs numb the body. These two reactions may be antitheses of each other but maintain a curious similarity, they both are running from the past and chasing the future, one runs from paralysis to freedom, the other runs from paralysis to liberty. Drugs give one the freedom to think, act and be without hinderance or restraint, but in essence one becomes a slave to the “society of drugs” to achieve this release. On the other hand, achievement brings one liberty from the oppressive restraints of fear and worry, and allows for freedom within the society of today.
Everyone is fleeing, everyone is chasing; in the end all are chasing tomorrow on the cusp of yesterday’s choices. We wake fleeing the the sun’s rays and fall asleep chasing them.

Heavy. Sounds great!
I’d read it. It’s right where I’m at….of course…..but it’s such a frusterating period of life…
Love you.
I’ll edit for you…I have that other thing you sent edited…I just haven’t sent it back to you. I don’t know how to send it back with edits–once I get a computer that I can use consistently it’ll be better.

“Chasing tomorrow on the cusp of yesterday’s choices”. That’s a great image. I wonder how you could illustrate it, perhaps for the cover?
So, does the chapter title “Chasing pleasure, you found abuse, what if you found moderation” mean that moderation IS the Godly solution?
Good point… which is why a healthy editor/writer relationship is so vital…
i think that moderation is A godly solution. chasing pleasure can lead to so many excessive habits, what if the enjoyment of moderation, whether we are talking of food, entertainment, strong drink, sex, material posessions, et cetera… shouldn’t the respect of pleasure lead us to a healthy relationship with it…?
I believe that god did give pleasure to enjoy and Moderation is A solution for me and maybe for many, but in a culture where grey is not a advertised color, and black and white is the medium we live in, many christians use abstinence as a solution, which it seems is not how Jesus lived, unless we are talking of his abstinence from sin.
So maybe the question is, “Can we find pleasure without sin?” – I think so.
