my fortune?

God speaks through prophets, visions, a bush, a still small voice and a donkey… but can He speak through a fortune cookie?

I got this fortune the other night, as I was contemplating the vastness of the journey ahead…

Now that I’m moving to Iowa, getting married, looking for a job, applying to grad school, et cetera… As I was sitting there in an anxiety ridden state, I broke open my fortune cookie and was surprised to find that a very directed fortune. Now, I’m not saying that in God’s sovereignty he directed my hand to grab this cookie (or directed the cookie to be in the place my hand would grab), but I am saying that if I believe in a God who can interact with the environment around me then He could have.

Theologians would call this “The Omnipotence of God” – download Knowledge of the Holy by A.W. Tozer for more attributes of God

Along with yesterday’s post about the creative process, I’m being reminded that focusing on the end-goal (being a married, employed, grad student in Iowa) does not move the reality any closer to fruition. But taking the next small step and focusing on that step alone, is a strategy that puts your trust in God, and not in my own ability to make all of these things happen tomorrow.

Tell me about your journey – What is your next small step?
